ALWAYS HUNTING - Jacob's Story is a game to be developed by Walshinator productions. A release date has not been set since development has recently restarted under (currently) one developer, but there are a few new items to share.

Premise[]

The game is played from the perspective of Jacob Marks, whose father has recently disappeared. It is when Jacob is called to the Police Station that he learns that there may be more to the disappearance than what was originally thought. When he gets home, he finds his father’s room in a complete mess with security cameras on the ceiling, still recording. He finds tapes stashed in the drawers of his father’s desk, which start to paint a picture of a much darker history than he could remember.

As he watches the tapes, strange events start occurring: people and other entities start to come for him; memories that can’t be his own flood his mind; dreams and nightmares haunt his sleep. Through all of this, the line between truth and deception will become blurred, and he will have to make some very tough decisions. How far will he go to survive?

Game information[]

The current plan is to first develop a Proof of Concept/Demo in Unreal Engine 5, which will feature 3 levels:

  • The Test: Jacob is given the task of finding and recovering some documents scattered around Heritage Park’s Campgrounds while avoiding the Black Tree, a creature inspired by the Slender Man mythos.
  • Ancient Temple: Jacob investigates a temple from Ancient Greece, dedicated to a god that looks eerily familiar…
  • Dark Waters: Jacob finds himself in a small town from his childhood, and begins to uncover the truth behind a tragedy that occurred there long ago, leading to the town being named “Submersus”.

The gameplay draws inspiration from horror titles such as Outlast, Phasmophobia, the Amnesia series and Slender: The Arrival.

The overall aim of the game is based on the player's need to survive, and it will be up to the player to choose which path is taken towards that end. There will be a range of items and objectives, as well as multiple story routes the player can take.

The full version may be developed in a custom game engine, which will allow for custom story/mod support, similarly to Amnesia's HPL 2/2.5 Engine.
